An off-duty police officer’s observation led to the arrest of a car burglary suspect this week in Boothbay Harbor.

Boothbay Harbor Police Chief Bob Hasch reported that just after midnight on Monday morning, May 14, Officer Nick Upham was downtown, off duty, when he observed someone rummaging through cars parked in the area of Oak Street.

Upham contacted on-duty Officer Devon Polizzotti to report the situation. Polizzotti located the person and, upon further investigation, located and recovered items stolen from a car parked in the downtown area. Polizzotti arrested Casey Ryder, 27, of Boothbay and charged him with Violation of Conditions of Release and Possession of Stolen Property.
