Big changes are coming to one of this year’s Windjammer Days boat parades, and they’re designed to make the event bigger, better, and safer for everyone involved!

What was once known as the Lighted Boat Parade and Harbor Aglow has evolved into the Windjammer Days Decorated Boat Parade, an exciting transformation that invites more creativity and more opportunities to join the fun—without the issues of navigating in the dark.

Starting earlier this year at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, this new format allows for a stunning display of decorated boats ensuring every colorful detail can be appreciated in full view. The Decorated Boat Parade will still circle the inner harbor twice (as the Lighted Boat Parade had in years past) but this earlier time shift means more boaters can participate without having to deal with the late night navigation and clean up. And that’s not all—this year, participants have even more reasons to bring their A-game.

In addition to the excitement of showcasing their vessels decked out in spectacular designs, boaters will have the chance to compete for three cash prizes: First Place: $400, Second Place: $200, Third Place: $100. Plus, every boat captain receives a $50 fuel card from our generous sponsor Hodgdon Marina / Boothbay Harbor as a heartfelt thank you for joining in on the celebration!

For spectators, this earlier hour includes the added bonus of a watch party and winner celebration at Mine Oyster. Cheer on your favorite boats from the deck of Mine Oyster Restaurant and stay for the prize announcements. Light appetizers will be served along with $2 oysters on the half shell, and $8 margaritas, mojitos, and bloody marys.

Participating boats are invited to come on over after the parade, join the fun and receive prizes. Deck out your boat in style!

Fourth of July Spectacular: Deck your boat out in patriotic red, white, and blue, with American flags waving and star-spangled lights shining bright. Add fireworks-inspired decorations, bunting, and even a soundtrack of classic Americana tunes to get everyone in the spirit!
