Principal Tom Landberg has submitted his resignation effective June 30 to the Edgecomb School Committee. On April 15, Landberg thanked the committee, school and community members for the past three years. "It's been a honor and priviledge. I'm proud of the work done here," he said.
In other action, the committee approved the 2025-26 school schedule. The first school day is Tuesday, Sept. 2 and projected last day is Monday, June 13, 2026. There are 175 student days in Maine's public school calendar. Superintendent Bob Kahler reported the schedule needs to coincide with other Alternative Organizational Structure (AOS) 98 schools and Bath Regional Career and Technical Center. "All the attending schools' schedules must closely align. There can only be 10 dissimilar days total," he said. "This just isn't between Bath and BRHS. It's 10 total combined with all schools."
School officials are preparing for renegotiating the grades 7-12 tuition agreement with the Community School District in Boothbay Harbor. The agreement is between Edgecomb Eddy and CSD trustees. Kahler reported the Department of Education sets a rate based on the past year's education spending. During the negotiation, the rate may increase up to 6% if both parties agree.
Kahler recommended a meeting of school committee chairs to meet with the trustees. "There are so many new board members between Edgecomb, Southport and trustees, I think it's a good idea to meet," he said.
No negotiation date has been set.
Also April 15, Family and Medical Leave and Earned Paid Leave policies were adopted. A procedure for managing medical and paid leave was adopted.
Chair Heather Sinclair announced teacher Dr. Kate Race is a finalist for Maine Teacher of the Year. She also thanked Jesse Wrigth for serving two years as a committee member. His term expires in May, and he didn't want to seek another term. John Allen is the only school committee candidate on Edgecomb's May town meeting referendum ballot.
The committee ended its meeting with two executive sessions. One was with Fire Chief Roy Potter discussing safety and security. The other was with Edgecomb Education Assciation.
The committee meets next at 5 p.m. Monday, May 19 in the school cafeteria.
