Union Street pump station slightly behind schedule
Boothbay Harbor Sewer District Superintendent Chris Higgins said Sargent Corporation is two or three days behind schedule due to issues with the bypass pumps being used to continue operations until the permanent lines are finished.
“That has been rectified, they got some new pumps in, so it’s working now,” said Higgins. “Our station is offline and everything now is being pumped by those bypass pumps.”
Higgins expects that by the end of Monday, Nov. 6, the crew will have finished work through Townsend Avenue. “Then up we go to Oak Street.”
Higgins commented on difficulties at the Union and Pear streets intersection; the crew had to dodge many service lines such as water and storm drainage. “We knew Pear Street would be slow. They got in and under and around stuff, so they’re pretty much running a straight pipe up the road, now.”
When work heads up through Union Street to Oak Street, Higgins said, “The only things they have to negotiate now are services and I think they will run into maybe one more (line) before they get to Townsend Avenue, then they’ll run into the one by the gas station and then nothing until they get to Oak Street, so hopefully they can make some time up.”
