Sunbeam, Rev. Planting to honor Wilson Chapel’s 100th anniversary
2017 is the 100th anniversary of the Wilson Memorial Chapel at Ocean Point, East Boothbay. The chapel is a nondenominational church serving the public with summer Sunday morning services and other events.
As part of the anniversary celebration, Maine Seacoast Mission will be honoring the chapel with a visit by its flagship, Sunbeam V.
Maine Seacoast Mission has had a continuing relationship with Wilson Memorial Chapel for over 96 years of its 100-year existence. The Sunbeam V and its staff actively support the social, medical and spiritual needs of residents of island communities along the coast of Maine. In addition, the Maine Seacoast Mission supports the children and families of Downeast Maine, promoting enhanced community, supportive skills and educational opportunities.
The Sunbeam V, built locally at Washburn & Doughty Shipyard, will be in the Boothbay area the weekend of July 15-16. The Reverend Scott Planting, president of Maine Seacoast Mission, will be delivering a service at Wilson Memorial Chapel on July 16 at 9:30 a.m. He will describe the many activities the Seacoast Mission is involved in. All are welcome.
Following the service, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the public is invited to board the Sunbeam V to personally experience the staff, mission, and capabilities of the ship. The ship can be accessed from the Ocean Point Inn dock, across from the inn.
