Elementary school picnic concert series continues
The popularity of a series of Friday lunch picnic concerts in the Boothbay Region Elementary School gym has prompted the school to continue the series with two concerts in April.
The series began as a way to celebrate Youth Art Month in March. Local performers played and sang for BRES students as they sat on the gym floor on blankets or towels, and ate picnic lunches with friends and family. Some performers were also members of the BRES or Boothbay Region High School staffs. On Friday, April 7, BRES educational technician Jonathan Waldo will perform on classical guitar and on Arabic oud.
Waldo is also a respected musician and musical instrument maker. “I like early and exotic instruments. I enjoy playing classical guitar music from the 1800s and Middle Eastern music on the oud,” Waldo said.
Family, friends and the public are invited to attend the lunchtime concerts. Student lunch times are staggered as follows: BRES K-1, 10:50-11:20; grades 2-3, 11:10-11:35; grades 4-6, noon- 12:20; and grades 7-8, 12:30-12:45.
The concerts will be held on April 7 and April 28. Lunches are available for purchase.
