Board seeks nominations for the 2014 ‘Spirit of America’ award
The Boothbay Harbor selectmen briefly discussed the 2014 Spirit of America award at a March 24 meeting.
The Spirit of America award is presented by municipalities in Maine to local individuals, organizations or projects the town feels give “commendable community service.”
Last year, the selectmen gave the award to the Rowe sisters (Marianne, Sue and Nancy) for their tireless efforts in improving the footbridge.
Selectman Russ Hoffman asked why the award was being brought up again so soon, since the Rowe sisters received their award in November of 2013.
“Yes, but we were behind last year,” Board Chairman Bill Hamblen said. “This year we'd like to make a decision by April 30.”
These awards are given at no cost to the town.
Anyone interested in nominating a group, organization, or individual for this award should email Board Chairman Bill Hamblen at whamblen@alumni.bowdoin.edu or attend a meeting of the Boothbay Harbor selectmen. The board’s next regular meeting will be Monday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at the Boothbay Harbor town office.
