Local water quality still stable
Boothbay Region Water District recently published its 2024 Consumer Confidence Report, which outlines the water quality of Adams Pond and Knickerbocker Lake.
The presence of inorganic (barium and fluoride) and synthetic material remained well below the maximum contaminant level. However, the total of synthetics (PFAS) rose 3.04 ppt (parts per trillion or nanograms per liter) from last year.
Possible contaminant sources include man-made chemicals found in consumer and industrial products such as cleaning materials, paint, non-stick cookware, firefighting foam and more. The current value is 8.74 ppt. The maximum allowed is 20 ppt.
Lead/copper and disinfectant levels were also below the maximum.
The full report can be found on the district’s website.
