BRWD denies CMBG request to reduce phosphorus testing
Boothbay Region Water District (BRWD) Natural Resources Program Manager Rebecca Jacobs told trustees March 25, she had denied a request from Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens to reduce CMBG's phosphorus testing. Jacobs and Code Enforcement Officer Dan Feenley then composed a letter explaining their reasoning and asked CMBG to continue to test at the required rate.
This comes as CMBG is undergoing a large-scale construction project to expand its horticulture and plant science center. Jacobs said the project will add tens of thousands of square feet of impervious surface between two watersheds. “We are not letting them off the hook, so to speak.”
In other business, the district is continuing its work to get its updated $19 million debt limit approved by the Maine legislature. On March 12, State Rep. and BRWD trustee Holly Stover and General Manager Weston Alley attended a work session in Augusta where the bill passed unanimously. The bill will be carried over to the next legislative session for further deliberation.
Dirigo Engineering is beginning work on the district’s filter waste recycling project. The company will be digging 13 test pits to identify ledge/bedrock areas for the placement of tanks.
