Superintendent tells community AOS focus on students, not controversy
Superintendent Bob Kahler has sent a letter to the AOS 98 community regarding the possible loss of federal education funds.
On Feb. 25, Kahler shared the following letter with the Edgecomb School Committee how the district would address the current controversy:
Dear members of the AOS 98 School Community, I am looking forward to welcoming back our students and staff from February break. Recent events have compelled me to inform you of something that, for me, is unusual. My silence.
My silence on current events is a choice. A choice to remain focused on the students in front of us, the colleagues beside us, and the communities behind us.
Not responding to charged rhetoric and waves of "what if's" coming from all directions is a challenge. One that I will undoubtedly succumb to from time to time. However, I am reminded that we can spend our time any way we wish to, but we can only spend it once. I choose to remain focused on providing as safe and as challenging an educational experience as possible for all our learners. Your teachers and staff remain committed to that goal as well.
I continue monitoring events in Washington, D.C. and Augusta. When and if actual events are going to impact us locally, I will keep you informed and we will plan accordingly.
By not spending time and energy on things I cannot influence, I choose to remain focused on those things I can influence: The students in front of us, the colleagues beside us, and the communities behind us.
Thank you for your continued support in our efforts to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders in our communities.
Sincerely, Robert Kahler, Superintendent of Schools.
