It’s the middle of October and Halloween and fall festivities are in full swing.

Sunday and Monday are the last days of the infinitely silly and always entertaining Pumpkinfest in Damariscotta. Plus, the Fall Foliage Festival wraps up Sunday, so stop by the Railway Village for local music, crafts and delicious food.

On Tuesday, Oct. 15 there will be an “Active Older Adult” fall foliage trip to Bucksport and Fort Knox at $15 per person (plus $4 more for the observation deck). Call the Y for more information.

Learn how to maintain your independence and “age gracefully” during a Boothbay Region Wellness Foundation presentation by Dr. Chip Teel at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16 at St. Columba’s church.

Many local stores are having big sales this week, like 1/2 price at Smiling Cow, Gimbel & Sons and the Clothing Loft. Pick up a paper to find all the best sales of the week. Speaking of local stores, Janson’s Clothing, along with the elementary school, are collecting donated toiletries to disperse to those in the community who might need them.

Kick off your Halloween festivities early this year with a Haunted Hayride in Edgecomb at 623 Boothbay Road (Cook’s Landing). It opens Friday, Oct. 18, 6:30-10 p.m. at $6/person or $20/family with 10 percent of the profits going to a nonprofit.

On Saturday, Oct. 19 a Senior Appreciation Day & Information Fair at BRES will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by to hear the Holy Mackerels, eat some good grub and hear presentations, along with a lot more. Also make sure to drop by the Railway Village with an unwrapped toy to add to the Toys for Tots pile (and get a free ride on the train for your contribution). Noon to 4 p.m.
