Harbor Theatre hosts Business After Hours
The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that The Harbor Theatre will be hosting the Chamber’s Business After Hours on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. The Business After Hours will be on Tuesday rather than in its regular Wednesday evening time slot because The Harbor Theatre is currently running a Wednesday and Thursday series of film festival winners. The theatre is located in the Meadow Mall at 185 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor.
Gov. Paul LePage will be attending the Business After Hours hosted by the theatre for an informal “meet & greet.” He values the voices of our business and community leaders and wants the opportunity to meet with these leaders to discuss the challenges we face locally, to help create solutions, eliminate red tape and use our limited resources more strategically.
LePage is the 74th governor of Maine, serving since 2011. Prior to being elected as Maine’s chief executive, he was mayor of Waterville from 2003 to 2011, and was a city councilor before that. He worked in the private sector as general manager of the 14-store discount chain Marden’s Surplus and Salvage from 1996 until 2011.
The Harbor Theatre (established on August 14, 2002), is a 184-seat, single-screen movie theatre, converted to the digital format on May 10, 2013 thanks to many generous local donations. The theatre is run as a "labor of love" by retiree Jason Sheckley who has 41 years’ experience in the film exhibition business. The theatre presents current films, plus film festival winners and occasional classics, plus news reels, cartoons and short subjects — just the way movie theatres did in the Golden Age in the 1940s & 1950s.
Tours will be available of the new digital projection booth as well as the theatre's 1930's era 35mm projection booth. Guests will have the opportunity to see how the pre-show screen ad program works, and classic short films will be run towards the end of the evening. Refreshments will include hot and cold hors d'oeuvres from River's End Farm, wine, beer from The Boothbay Craft Brewery and, of course, fresh popcorn and soda. Door prizes will include a free business Screen Ad for a year (a $600 value!) and free movie passes to future shows.
The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce has opened up the Business After Hours to members and nonmembers to encourage everyone from the business community to participate. The event is complimentary to Chamber members and $10 per person for nonmembers. To register to attend, visit www.boothbayharbor.com.
Since being founded 51 years ago in 1962, the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce has grown into a first-rate, multi-service membership organization that currently serves over 370 members. The Chamber’s next big event will be the Annual Business Meeting, to be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.
