Time flies

The procreation drama at the Friends of the Library Used Bookstore continues to unfold, quickly. A week ago, the dove babies resembled miniature ducklings, peeking out for a quick view from under their parent’s body. But by June 27, two short weeks after hatching, the siblings look like fluffy versions of adults, commandeering and dwarfing their nest.
Neither Mom nor Dad was to be seen. The exhausted parents are still believed to be in the area, based on frequent reports of them sipping lattes outside Red Cup Cafe. Good coffee, of course, is a necessity for any tired parent. But could it be that the parents are refueling, spending some quality time together and getting ready for another bookstore nesting? Time will tell.
On the human side of events, Hattie Moss of Boothbay was the proud winner of the Bookstore’s ‘Name that Dove’ contest. Hattie chose the creative name of “Booksen” for momma dove. Contest referees Children’s Librarian Mary Pinkham and volunteer Carolyn Mayne said they thought the name was perfect.
By June 29, the young ones had flown off, as well.
