Community Lunch 2018-2019
Community Lunch, originally known as Warming Space, began in November, 2008. A group from St. Columba's Episcopal Church prepared soup, bread, and dessert and hosted the meal one Thursday each month. At the end of that first season, in April 2009, several changes were planned. Meals would be offered every Thursday each month from fall to spring, the name of the event would be changed to Community Lunch, and other churches would be involved. One thing would remain constant: Everyone would be welcome to come enjoy the lunch.
Now, almost every Thursday from early November until just before Easter, a large gathering can be found enjoying food, fellowship, and fun from 11:30 until 12:45 at St. Columba's. Each week a group from a different area church serve as hosts. Boothbay Harbor Congregational is on deck the first Thursday of the month followed the second week by Methodists from Southport, Boothbay Harbor, and East Boothbay. St. Columba's hosts the third week and Boothbay Baptists the fourth.
This year's final luncheon was served on March 28, and by that time 1,154 people enjoyed the lunches, and the weekly free will offering to benefit the Boothbay Region Food Pantry totaled $2,548.
Many thanks go to the volunteers who cook, set up, serve, and clean up each week Their work makes the program a success.
