Kids were the main focus June 2 at Boothbay Region Ambulance Service’s second annual open house at the complex on Corey Lane. The service welcomed visitors during the four-hour celebration that featured a bounce house, face-painting, stock racing cars and woodworking workshops.

The event was also informative. The service provided information about Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Camden National Bank in Boothbay Harbor and Home Depot in Topsham. Midcoast Hospital provided information about its emergency department, walk-in clinic and physician referral line. Local Branch Manager Josh Anderson provided information about CNB’s chidren’s saving accounts and college funds. Home Depot sent Lori Brooks with materials for constructing birdhouses, sailboats, airplanes and tool boxes.

BRAS also provided information about itself. Ambulance staff provided information about the service’s community paramedicine program which involves emergency medical technician home visits to high risk patients. BRAS held its first open house in May last year to showcase its brand new $1.6 million facility which doubled the previous complex’s size. The open house went so well last year, ambulance officials decided to host another this year.

“We had a good turnout last year even though it occurred near Memorial Day weekend. This year, we scheduled it a little later, and expect a lot of families to attend,” said BRAS Operations Manager Scott Lash.

The open house had something new this year. BRAS officials showed visitors Boothbay Region Elementary School students’ artwork in the administrative office’s hallway. Boothbay Region Elementary and Southport Central schools’ students provided their “Stars of Life” handiwork as part of the 2018 Community Art Work Project.
