Will we make it?
Boothbay's window of opportunity to participate in an economy-boosting project is nearing its end, and the effort to raise Boothbay's portion of the production costs, $55,000, is only halfway there.
Getting Away Together is a travel documentary series that has offered to produce a 30-minute segment featuring the Boothbay region. It would air globally on PBS member stations for several years.
Park City, Utah, which was the focus of an earlier segment of the series, reportedly experienced a 10 percent boost to its economy after the show aired.
Audrey Miller, who chairs the Getting Away Boothbay Committee, recently said, “The sand in the hour glass is running out on getting this project completed this year. The plan is for production to begin the last week in September. We are about half way to our goal of $55,000.”
“Having an Emmy award winning producer want to come here to film a travel documentary of the Boothbay region to be shown on PBS channels across the country and internationally is huge.” Miller also pointed out that the typical PBS viewer matches Boothbay's tourist demographic profile almost perfectly.
“While our state doesn't have a way to help us, we can help ourselves. None of us individually can do this, but, together we can. A big thank you to the businesses and individuals that have gotten on board so far!”
