Soon will come Thanksgiving Day
Short days, plunging temps, hearty soups and turkey talk — all sure signs of a change of season. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the Garden Therapy team from the Boothbay Region Garden Club turned its talents to crafts that signal the upcoming wintery holiday.
Fruits and berries, pine cones, leaves and fall foliage in many shapes, textures and colors were provided by the team for the creation of six festive cornucopias which will be used for table decor throughout the month of November. Safe Havens and Gregory Wing residents were also presented with three straw wreaths they would wrap with wide fall-colored ribbons and adorn with leaves and fall flowers. Felt turkey cutouts with pilgrim faces were suspended in the center of each wreath to emphasize the celebration of Thanksgiving.
Additional felt turkeys were individualized with a pilgrim face and the name of the crafter. Ribbons were attached so participants could hang the whimsical gobblers in their rooms.
The BRGC Garden Therapy team always looks for ways to positively contribute to the well being of our local community. For the month of December, the team, with the help of additional club members, will turn its attention to the creation of tray favors for delivery to a local nursing home and Meals on Wheels recipients.
Garden Therapy projects provide interactive activities that encourage engagement for Village residents. Join the Garden Club and join the team!
