Sewer District talks land acquisition
Boothbay Harbor Sewer District trustees talked April 1 about acquiring an additional property due to the limited space on the current lot.
This area could house the district’s new maintenance building following the destruction of the previous garage in a Feb. 10 fire. The estimate for the demolition of the remaining structure is about $20,000.
One consideration was that the property be large enough for an additional plant in case the current facility ever reaches capacity. The worry is, as more land in the region is bought up and available land is further away, it will cost more for material to be pumped between the two facilities. Currently, it costs about $2 million per mile of piping, according to Superintendent David Pratt.
“(This would) kind of be a strategic grab for the future generation,” said Pratt.
In other action, trustees voted to stay with First National Bank’s Wealth Management Division. This comes after a series of investment portfolio-focused discussions with other local banks.
The contract for phase 1 of the district's $8.2 million sea wall project is going out to bid this week.
