Sewer district demolishes garage, talks next steps
Boothbay Harbor Sewer District (BHSD) recently demolished its maintenance garage, which was destroyed by a Feb. 10 electrical fire.
The slab under the building still needs to be removed as its in-ground heating system was damaged, and it's not considered stable enough for a replacement structure, per insurance specifications. Discussions centered on the timeline of demolition. Trustees are considering using the slab as a laydown area for construction materials as they begin phase 1 of their sea wall project. The contract for the project is out to bid.
The district also met with Maine Department of Transportation regarding the planned Route 27 sidewalk that would connect Boothbay Region YMCA to Clifford Park in Boothbay. BHSD shared concerns about the sidewalk's being built on top of the district's underground manhole barrels, as this would make the district responsible for repairing any walkway damage if a barrel needed to be serviced or removed. Construction is set to begin this fall.
