Reformation Sunday celebrated at Congregational Church
This Sunday, Oct. 29, the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation will be celebrated at the 10 a.m. worship service at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. Five hundred years ago, on Oct. 31, 1517, Martin Luther, a priest, confronted the practice of the Church selling forgiveness in the form of indulgences. On that date, he defiantly nailed a copy of "The Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences" also known as "The 95 Theses" to the door of the Wittenberg Church. While he never had any intention of starting a separate Church, his actions effectively started the Reformation.
In her sermon on Sunday morning, the Rev. Dr. Sarah Foulger will lift up "The Courage of Martin Luther." Special music will be woven into the worship service. Everyone is welcome. For more information, please visit the church website: www.congochurchbbh.org.
