The Boothbay Public Works Department is nearing completion of paving the East Side road of Barters Island.

The final stages are scheduled for September 5-6, as road crews will be applying the final layer of asphalt.

Boothbay Town Manager Jim Chaousis said the paving job is considered a major project that started from the beginning of East Side Road to the Cross Road on Barters Island.

Chaousis said it's very possible residents will be inconvenienced in the final two days, but that they will be very happy with the final product.

Local traffic has been instructed to follow the directions of the road flaggers for the remainder of the project.
