New digs for the library
The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library has settled into its new temporary home at the Meadow Mall on Townsend Street, located adjacent to the House of Pizza.
After weeks of preparation and three days of actual packing, moving and unpacking, the library is open for business.
It was a busy first week at the new location, with lots of people coming by to see the new spot. Most were amazed at how the library managed to make the move so smoothly.
“With anything like this, to be successful lots of prior planning had to go into it,” Library Director Tim McFadden said. “We had help from the Maine library community, from our dedicated volunteers and staff, and from a board of trustees that has committed itself to making the renovation of the library, and the move to the transitional site, a success.”
The library will be at the mall location until May sometime, when the renovation of the Oak Street location is completed. Construction activity is soon to begin at the site. The renovation and expansion will add almost 1500 square feet to the existing building, including the addition of a second floor.
Be sure to check the library’s website and Facebook site for ongoing information and photos of progress.
The library will continue to offer its services at the mall site, including children’s story time, interlibrary loan service, deliveries to home bound patrons and much more. Because of space limitations at the temporary site, the monthly Literary Luncheons will take place at the Boothbay Harbor Town Office meeting room.
If you haven’t already, be sure to drop by and see what a great job the library has done moving a portion of its collection, computers, and much else to its new digs at the Meadow Mall.
