Boothbay Harbor’s two-time Olympic champion Ellie Logan, 25, who won gold medals as a member of the American women’s eight crew, made the finals of the World Women’s single sculls in Korea.
Although she placed fifth, her family praised her effort and courage to try a different phase of the sport.
“It is a different kind of rowing. It is hard to adjust,” said her father, Bill Logan.
“In the eights, she was rowing with both hands on one oar. In the single sculls, she was rowing with one hand on each oar, much like you and I row a boat. It is different,” he said.
Logan placed second in her heat and third in the semifinals, but was unable to race to victory in the finals held on September 1.
