Jenn Greenleaf seeks seat on community school district board of trustees
Jenn Greenleaf said she is looking to be the next trustee of the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District because she wants to make a difference in local education.
“I like being involved. I like to figure out ways where I can make a difference,” Greenleaf said.
As a substitute teacher and a mother to three children currently enrolled at AOS 98 school system, Greenleaf said she wants to solve problems from an administrative standpoint.
“I'm motivated and I'm organized,” Greenleaf said. “If I don't have an answer, I get the answer. If someone comes to me with the wrong answer, I find the correct answer.”
Greenleaf is not shy when it comes to running for public office. She previously served on the Richmond board of selectmen, where she said she worked directly with school board officials and administrators.
When Greenleaf moved to the Boothbay region last year, she decided to take out nomination papers in February, and then went door-to-door to talk with her constituents.
“I have no problem listening to their grievances, and I have no problem taking those issues to the board and filtering it through the proper channels,” Greenleaf said.
Among the most common complaints were bullying and drugs, problems that Greenleaf said she's encountered in the previous two school districts she's worked in.
Greenleaf said she thinks there are ways to take on these issues, whether it's providing more support for the students and staff, or making sure there are enough resources for teachers to learn to be more proactive.
When it comes to problem solving, Greenleaf said she values communication and working together to find a solution.
“It takes a lot of hands to stir a pot and not just one ring leader,” Greenleaf said.
May 5 is election day and voting hours will be between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Boothbay Town Office at 1011 Wiscasset Road in Boothbay.
