Half-price moving sale at Skidompha Book Shop
In preparation for the move to its new location, Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop in downtown Damariscotta will hold a storewide half-price sale Wednesday, Dec. 21 through Saturday, Dec. 24, its final day at its current location, 115 Elm Street.
The sale will be in effect during Damariscotta’s Wrap It Up Street Festival on Thursday evening, Dec. 22, and volunteers will be available for wrapping book shop purchases.
During January, book shop volunteers will move the shop across the street to its new place at Back Street Landing (behind Elm Street Plaza), opening there on February 1.
“Every book a customer buys is a book we don’t have to move,” says Rosie Bensen, co-manager of the shop. “And we have so many good books in the shop. It’s a great time for people to complete their holiday shopping and to stock up on some reading for the winter.”
Hours during the sale will be Wednesday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Normal hours are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays.
Bensen says that because of the demands of the move, the shop will not be able to accept donations after Dec. 21. Starting on Jan. 2, donations may be left at the new location, which residents might remember as the Back Street Landing restaurant, as long as there is someone there to receive them.
While the current shop will officially be closed during January, customers are welcome whenever volunteers put out the “Open” flag.
The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop is a major source of income for Skidompha Public Library. All items are donated, all staff members are volunteers, and all proceeds go to the library.
