'The Goonies' matinee will raise funds for Burnt Island Summer Camp
Ahoy, movie lovers!
Swashbuckling adventure is coming to the big screen at the Harbor Theater on Saturday, June 14th, when the beloved 1985 classic “The Goonies” sets sail in a special 2 p.m. matinee. The family-friendly fundraiser invites viewers of all ages to step into a world of hidden treasure maps, secret passageways, and pirate legends. The ragtag group of kids – the Goonies – race to uncover the fortune of the fabled One-Eyed Willy, a 17th-century pirate whose legacy lives on in Hollywood history and now, for one special day, in Boothbay Harbor.
Sponsored by the Harbor Theater and Tindal & Callahan, this one-time event invites the community to come together for a good cause, with 100% of proceeds from ticket and concession sales supporting AOS98’s Summer Camp Program. Admission prices are set to make the event accessible for families and supporters alike: $8 for children, $12 for adults, and $30 for a family of four.
“The Goonies” is the perfect movie to spark the spirit of adventure, imagination, and teamwork - exactly the qualities summer campers develop during their time on Burnt Island. Therefore, it's only fitting that a pirate treasure story helps fund the real-life adventures that await local kids this summer.
Whether you're reliving your childhood memories or introducing your kids to “The Goonies” for the first time, it’s going to be a fun afternoon for a special purpose. It’s about more than just a movie - it’s about investing in our local children and helping them discover the treasures of the Maine coast and the place they call home.
