'Getting Away' with the loot
A donation can was stolen from Coastal Maine Popcorn Company at 4:55 p.m on September 29.
Store owner Julie Roberts noticed the can missing the next morning, September 30. She reviewed the security cameras and saw a man with a mustache, hat and glasses walking out the door with the can.
The man never purchased anything, Roberts said, who was not present at the time of the incident. The security footage shows a man take a sample of popcorn, walk around the store, and leave with the can.
The Boothbay Harbor Police Department believes the subject is between 5-foot 10 inches and 6 feet tall, and weighs close to 300 pounds.
The donation can was to benefit the travel show “Getting Away Together” to be filmed in the Boothbay region, and had been in the store for four weeks.
“I am furious,” Roberts said. “What really makes me mad is it was a donation can for a cause that's trying to better the business in our town; to make it a better community for the people that live here, and that somebody would steal something like that just infuriates me.”
