Foundation adds new board members
Recently, the Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund (BRSAF) welcomed three new members to its Board of Directors: Sarah Clifford, Michael Pollard, and Mark Gimbel. All three of the new directors bring to the BRSAF a wealth of knowledge and experience vital to this organization’s mission of helping region students advance their education.
A graduate of the University of Southern Maine, Sarah A. Clifford, a CPA, currently holds the position of assistant controller and director of Compliance at Bowdoin College. Before taking a position at Bowdoin College, Clifford worked as a Senior Accountant at the William Brewer firm in Bath, and, before that, for Berry Dunn McNeil and Parker in Portland. Clifford chairs the Edgecomb School Committee.
A local businessman, Mark Gimbel, hold a business degree from the University of New Hampshire. In addition to running a successful business, Gimbel has been very active as a Boothbay Harbor Rotarian and as a founding member of the Boothbay Region Big Brothers and Sisters. He has been equally active in both the Congregational Church of Newcastle and, more recently, the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor.
Finally, the BRSAF welcomes to its board Michael Pollard. Pollard resides in Chevy Chase, Md., but for many decades has summered in the Boothbay region, for the past 20 years on Southport. A graduate of the University of Michigan and Harvard Law School, Michael is a member of both the D.C. and Massachusetts Bar.
A specialist in healthcare law, he has served as a consultant to numerous large firms and served as an Assistant Director in the B urea of Consumer Protect at the Federal Trade Commission. He is now a senior advisor to the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association in Washington, D.C. A past president of the Southport Island Association, and now on the Board of the YMCA, Michael is well known for his voluntarism.
The BRSAF considers itself very fortunate to have Clifford, Gimbel, and Pollard as part of its team and enthusiastically welcomes them aboard In addition to announcing its new directors, the BRSAF takes equal pleasure in presenting its distinguished slate of new officers. Our new president is Hamilton Meserve. The BRSAF’s new Vice President will be Susan Norton; our secretary will be Sandi Hankanson, and our treasurer remains Jerry Homer.
Sue Norton also heads the BRSAF’s “Nominating and Governance Committee.” Brad Hastings heads the “Development Committee,” Bill Bailey “Awards,” Jerry Homer “Finance,” and Jack Bauman “Publicity.” These are the people who will lead the organization as it prepares to serve the Boothbay region and the aspirations of its students and their families during the forthcoming academic year.
