First National Bank donates $5k toward rebuilding pier
First National Bank recently announced a $5,000 donation to the Boothbay Sea and Science Center toward rebuilding the main pier.
The Boothbay Sea and Science Center’s (BSSC) mission is the advancement of sailing, boating and ocean sciences by minimizing economic and physical obstacles and further to develop independence, self-confidence, teamwork and volunteerism in the participants. To inspire individuals to strengthen themselves and their community through the enjoyment of the sea.
BSSC educates nearly 200 children during their summer programming. The pier provides critical waterfront access to five of their custom floats. Rebuilding it is essential to the continuation of their sailing and “at sea” marine science program. They would be unable to access their floats without the pier. The new pier will also increase outdoor classroom space and expand wheelchair accessibility.
“We’re proud to support the Boothbay Sea and Science Center with this project,” said First National Bank’s Business Development Officer, Alyssa Allen. “BSSC’s waterfront programming provides important education and experiences for our youth in the heart of East Boothbay.”
