A guide to local donation centers
Spring has sprung, and that means it’s once again time to clear out last year’s amassed clutter. But where to drop it off? Luckily, several local places accept donations of clothing, furniture, books and everything in between.
Boothbay Harbor:
St. Andrews Auxiliary Thrift Shop
185 Townsend Ave., Monday – Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Donations can be left in the bins behind the shop, preferably during business hours. Not accepted: large furniture and books
Midcoast Humane Thrift Shop
153 Townsend Ave., Tuesday – Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Donations only accepted during business hours. Not accepted: electronics and appliances
Rotary Barn
66 Montgomery Road, 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Saturday.
Drop-offs are welcome during open hours. Pickups can be arranged by calling 207 619-1417 or emailing rotarybarnpickup@gmail.com. Not accepted: clothing, large appliances, beds/bedframes/mattresses, electronics, exercise equipment, dog crates, sleeper sofas, porta cribs, pianos and organs.
First United Methodist Church’s Clothing Closet
81 Townsend Ave., Wednesday and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4. p.m.
Donations can be left in the red bin in the church's parking lot anytime. Accepts clothing for all sizes and ages.
Our Lady Queen of Peace
82 Atlantic Ave., Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Currently taking donations for the July 19 summer yard sale. Drop-offs can be made during open hours. Not accepted: clothes, appliances and electronics.
The Community Center’s Durable Medical Equipment Program
185 Townsend Ave., Monday - Friday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Donations and pickups are accepted during business hours. People can call if interested in a particular item and arrange to collect it outside business hours. Call (207) 633-9876. Accepts medical equipment ranging from walkers and shower stools to bed pads and diapers.
Friends of the Library Used Bookstore
4 Oak St., May 1 –31: Thursday - Saturday 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. June 1–Oct. 11: Monday-Saturday 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and Sunday 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
Drop-offs must be brought inside during open hours. Not accepted: soiled or marked items, magazines, textbooks, atlases, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and travel guides older than five years.
Southport:

Will begin taking donations for the annual Firemen’s Auction in late June and July. For pickup, call (207) 712-1824. Not accepted: appliances, mattresses and cribs.
Edgecomb:
Edgecomb Community Church
15 Cross Point Road, Tuesday and Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Donations can be left in the bins at the side entrance door, preferably during business hours. Not accepted: electronics and large items.
