Community invited to Wilson Chapel's 100th Anniversary celebration Aug. 6
The Wilson Memorial Chapel on Ocean Point, celebrating its 100th anniversary, will hold a commemorative service and host a reception on Sunday, Aug. 6. Both events are open to the entire community. There will also be a regular 9:30 a.m. morning worship service on Aug. 6, led by Brian Michael Donovan.
The special commemorative service, starting at 1:30 p.m. on the 6th, will feature several community members’ personal reflections and knowledge of the chapel's history and service to the Boothbay area. In addition, there will be time provided for those attending to share personal or family connections to the history and life of the chapel. Select music will include a favorite hymn of Danny Beal who, until his recent passing, had been the organist for one third of the chapel’s life. Led by the Rev. Tom Kerr of the East Boothbay United Methodist Church, the afternoon service will also include readings used in the inaugural service in 1917.
The reception will be at 2:30 p.m. Parking is available along Shore Road and also at the public parking lot at Grimes Cove. Boothbay region residents and visitors are invited to come to learn more about this unique seaside chapel, enjoy some refreshments, and join in the celebration.
