Considering the position you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues?
Boothbay’s schools are at the heart of our community, and we need to make sure they remain a place where families want to send their children, teachers want to work, and students thrive. While student enrollment is affected by more than just our school—with outside elements like available and affordable housing playing a big role—there are things we can have a positive impact on within the schools and district. A safe and dry facility for students to learn and teachers to teach in is paramount.
Funding our schools properly in a time of nationwide escalating costs is increasingly difficult. Listening to the needs of families, educators, and taxpayers to inform decisions that prioritize our students, we can find solutions that balance a quality education and fiscal responsibility, and keep our community invested in our schools’ success. These decisions have no easy answer, but centering the quality of the education we provide our students is imperative to the conversation.
So many incredible resources call this peninsula home—marine trades like boatbuilding and fishing; hospitality; organizations focused on environmental science like Bigelow, the Department of Marine Resources, or the Gardens; healthcare; skilled trades like electricians and plumbers—far more than I can list. These industries can inspire career pathways and offer hands-on learning for students. Strengthening partnerships between our schools and local industries would give students more options to succeed and reinforce this community as a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
Any other thoughts on why you are running or what you can bring to the office?
As a proud BRHS graduate, parent of a current student, and engaged community member, I care deeply about the future of our schools.
I’ve spent my life working with others on this peninsula—whether through the Rotary Club, various nonprofit boards or volunteer work, participation in local events, or as a youth group leader or soccer coach. I know how important strong schools and families are to a strong Boothbay.
That’s why I’m running: I believe in the power of our local education to shape our kid’s futures and strengthen our community. As a parent, I see firsthand what our schools do well and where we can continue to improve. As a resident and community member, I understand the need for responsible budgeting that voters can support. I will bring an engaged, balanced, and family-focused voice to the School Board.
