Accident at Irving station

An elderly man driving a Volvo station wagon swung into the Irving gas station lot, hit a parked Ford Explorer 4x4, and careened into the gully between Irving and Hawke Motors in Boothbay Harbor at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Joseph Creighton, 71, of Boothbay Harbor was later charged with OUI, according to Boothbay Harbor Police Officer Jared Mitkus, the investigating officer.
Before coming to a stop, the Volvo hit a rental car in the Hawke Motors lot and moved it forward about five feet.
“Mr. Creighton was headed north on Townsend Avenue and pulled into the southern entrance to Irving,” said Officer Mitkus. “He attempted to park the car, hit the Explorer and continued into the gully where he hit the Hawke Motors’ vehicle.”
No serious injuries were evident, as the driver of the Explorer, Robert Hamlyn of Newcastle, and Creighton were standing next to their vehicles while being checked by Boothbay Region Ambulance Service attendants.
Boothbay Harbor Police Officer Nick Upham and members of the town’s fire department also responded to the accident.
