Woodchucks answer the call
Dear Editor:
On Friday, Dec. 2, I received a call from a Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce board member who was looking for a little assistance. They had gotten the go-ahead and other materials needed for their warming stations in Fisherman’s Wharf Inn parking lot for the arrival of Santa and his friends. This free event was created by BHRCC to enhance the Santa experience for families all while merchants and organizations, including CRC, could provide additional treats and information about our programs and services. The assistance needed from the call was for some wood to be used during the community event, a longstanding tradition here in the Boothbay region.
What I heard from the request was simply this: if one child or one adult who did not have access to heat that day (remember, it was windy and cold) might be able to warm their hands while visiting Santa and his friends. What a great opportunity for our Woodchucks to assist other community members.
Our mission at CRC is “to assist people in need on the Boothbay peninsula” and I saw this as an opportunity to do just that — so I contacted our Director of Operations, Holly Stover, to make the call to the Woodchucks to see if they could donate and deliver a small load of wood for our neighbors and friends at BHRCC. Within hours the Woodchucks had answered the call from our director and answered the request to help out the community.
The board of directors at CRC has a lot of respect and admiration for our Woodchucks: they work with all of our staff members to ensure wood deliveries to homes in need. They work year round to help serve our community and assisting our community members is something they take great pride in as a result. We are very honored to have the Woodchucks as one of our programs of CRC and we were happy to help our community during Santa’s arrival to town.
Happy Holidays!
