Inspired by the black and white photography of Peter Lindburgh, local freelance photographer Bob Crink’s second “Women of the Boothbay Region” show features 14 new portraits. The show will be at Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library through February. The opening reception is Saturday, Jan. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Crink photographed this year’s subjects in the Spruce Point Chapel at Boothbay Railway Village beginning in the fall. In addition to the 14 new subjects, the show will also include two women in last year’s show, Juliette Cohen and Kathleen Sheehan; and two favorite photos of his late wife, Lynne Crink, taken in the mid-70s. All of the images will be exhibited as framed 12” x 15” portraits in the conference room on the second floor.

Crink has four books by Lindburgh and admires the late photographer. “He tried to see the real person,” Crink said. “In ‘Shadows on the Wall’ he photographed very famous actresses in a way that’s not been done before.”

In addition to Lindburgh, Crink said a line from one of his daughter Carrie’s poems has stayed with him: “Most people hide behind what they’re really feeling.” The idea of shooting new subjects in B&W might make those images “more thought-provoking and revealing,” Crink said.

This show features women ages 34 to 74 – all friends, neighbors, or acquaintances of Crink’s. Last year’s show was such a success, with over 50 people attending the reception, Crink is hoping even more Boothbay Harbor residents will come to see this year’s models.

A retired mechanical engineer, Crink spends most of his time behind the lens. You’ve no doubt spotted this tall man and his camera at many local events from Boothbay Sea and Science Center to Harbor Fest to Boothbay Lights.

Come to the library at 4 Oak St., if not for the opening reception, then during the show’s run. You are curious about which women are in this year’s show, anyway, aren’t you?
