Has forsythia forsaken us?

For over 50 years we have had mounds and masses of forsythia blooming in our yard, waves of tiny yellow flowers resplendent on their branches, an unfailing herald of spring…until this spring.

A neighbor says that it’s the same with his forsythia. Bare branches leafing out but no bloom. Is there a gardener out there who can tell us what has happened to the forsythia?
