What about this time around?
Dear Editor:
Because it always brought a sardonic smile to my face, my favorite 2024 campaign sign was a large banner which proclaimed, TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING.
It was effective; it compelled me to search my memory for the signal achievements of his first term.
Was he right about his Muslim ban? Supreme Court struck it down.
Abolishing and replacing Obama Care? Didn’t happen.
Summit meeting with monomaniacal dictator Kim? Pointless.
Siding with Putin against his National Security team? Pathetic; treasonous.
“Infrastructure Week”? Didn’t happen.
Border Wall? Ineffective: $15 billion; only 80 miles of new wall. Did Mexico pay for it? Nope.
COVID-19 response? Worse than useless.
2021 Presidential transition? Lied; incited deadly attack on U.S. Capitol. OK — rookie mistakes of a political apprentice.
But what has he gotten right so far, in his second term? I see marked improvement:
Complying with the Constitution? Nope.
Standing up to Putin; supporting Ukraine and NATO? Nope.
Picking on Gov. Janet Mills? Unforced error; really bad idea.
Ending the minting of pennies? Yes!
Mt. Rushmore, here we come! (Oh wait, they’re understaffed.)
