‘We The People’ Maine workshop Oct. 15

Workshop on collecting petition signatures to be at Savory Maine in Damariscotta beginning at 7 p.m.
Mon, 10/13/2014 - 7:00am

On Wednesday, October 15 at 7 p.m.,  We The People Maine will conduct a workshop at Savory Maine on 11 Water Street in Damariscotta. People from Damariscotta and surrounding towns who are interested in helping to collect signatures at the polls on Nov. 4, for the We The People Maine petition are encouraged to attend.

The signature collection effort is part of a nationwide campaign to amend the U.S. Constitution to say “money is not speech” and “corporations are not people.” The amendment will reverse the recent Citizens United decision and a dozen other Supreme Court decisions that have awarded First Amendment rights to corporations and given the very wealthy the ability to make nearly unlimited campaign contributions.

The workshop will address the nuts and bolts of collecting and registering signatures; 70,000 signatures are needed to send our petition to the State House. To learn more, attend the workshop and become  part of this exciting Constitutional moment in our nation’s history.

Soups, chowder, quiche, beverages and dessert will be available for purchase from 6-7 p.m. with a portion of the proceeds going to support campaign expenses.
