We can make this happen
Dear Editor:
Many of you have seen in the paper that the renovations on Clifford Park in Boothbay have begun. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Coulombe, for making this very, very generous gift to the town. While the plans for the new playground and fields, which were decided upon three years ago, have to be followed to the letter in order to receive the federal grant, this does not preclude the possibility of having a permanent ice rink installed there in the future.
According to Dan Bryer, Boothbay town manager, one of the new fields might have to be done away with to make room for a rink, but it is a definite possibility (assuming we can raise enough money and community support). I am excited that there is still hope for a permanent, covered, chilled rink and that the 292 signatures recently gathered in favor of a rink were not all for naught. A rink could also be used for many other purposes during the other three seasons.
The Boothbay Civic Association, headed by Dawn Gilbert, is spearheading the effort to make a future rink a reality. All interested parties are encouraged to attend the next BCA meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, at the Boothbay Town Office. Everyone is also invited to join the BCA as a member for only $5 a year. Fundraising ideas for a future rink will be discussed. Please watch the Boothbay / Boothbay Harbor Community Rink Facebook page for updates. If there’s a will, there’s a way, and together, we can make this happen.
Optimistically yours,
Eve Jamieson
