Voters pass $11M CSD budget

    Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor voters passed an $11,057,515 budget for the Community School District June 15. The budget, up 1.5% from last year’s $10,898,543, will cost taxpayers 6.8% or $601,468 less with $2,884,368 in appropriations – non-tax funding sources which include tuitions, special education-related services, state subsidy and use of fund balance.

    This year’s budget uses $1,025,000 from the fund balance, 64% more than last year’s $625,000; elementary tuition rose 33%, from last year’s $300,000 to $400,000; secondary education rose 28.6%, from $350,000 to $450,000; and state subsidy rose about 30%, from $626,928 to $814,368.

    The regular instruction cost center rose 1.6% to $4,308,595; special education, 1.2%, to $2,026,175; other instruction (extra and cocurricular), 7.4%, to $311,545; student and staff support dropped 2.3%, to $989,436; system administration dropped 16.9%, to $257,391; school administration dropped 7.9%, to $634,895; transportation and buses dropped 2.7%, to $434,468; facilities maintenance rose 5.1%, to $1,425,010; debt service dropped 2.4%, to $405,000; and all other expenditures, 0%, staying at $265,000.

    Boothbay Harbor’s costs fell 0.3% to $3,138,696 and Boothbay’s fell 10.4% to $5,096,451.
