In keeping with a longstanding Owls Head Labor Day Weekend tradition, antique and vintage motorcycles take center stage at the Owls Head Transportation Museum’s annual Vintage Motorcycle Festival and Antique Aeroplane Show on Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4. Event hours both days: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Vintage Motorcycle Meet attracts antique, custom and racing bikes from all over northern New England with favorite marques including Harley-Davidson, Triumph, Honda, BMW, Indian, and Ducati interspersed with rare and antique bikes from the world over. In 2016, this event attracted more than 400 exhibitors throughout the weekend.

For the third year running, a designated parking area will be set up in the main parking area reserved for modern motorcycles. All pre-1997 motorcycles are admitted free.

For the third year running, a special, designated parking area for modern motorcycles will also be set up in the main parking area.

From Harleys and Triumphs to Hondas and BMWs, join us to show off your vintage motorcycle. While the theme of this popular show is motorcycles, guests arriving in their pre-1997 vehicles receive free admission to this show and all other Museum (non-auction) events.

In addition to assorted vintage motorcycles of all kinds, an array of family activities will include demonstrations, dirt track racers, free Model T rides and (weather permitting) antique aeroplane demonstrations. Young children are encouraged to practice their driving skills in the Kids Corral area, which features pedal cars and pedal planes. Remember, we fly early, so try to get to the Museum in the morning to see our planes in action.

The Museum will showcase its collection of early motorcycles, which includes a 1919 ABC Sopwith, 1868 Roper Steam Velocipede, 1901 Steffey Motorbike, 1922 Royal Enfield, 1930 Henderson Streamline Motorcycle, 1931 Indian Four, 1932 Harley Davidson V Motorcycle, 1938 Indian Scout and 1946 Whizzer Motorbike. A selection of automobiles from the ground vehicle collection will also be demonstrated throughout the weekend.

Antique aeroplane demonstrations will commence weather permitting; planes planned for demonstration may include our 1933 Waco UBF-2, our 1917 SPAD, our 1917 Curtiss Jenny, our beloved 1923 Fokker C.IVa and our 1930 Travel Air Speedwing. Open flightline is scheduled on each afternoon during the show and provides an opportunity for visitors to see, hear and experience the planes close up and to visit with our pilots.

Event admission is $18 for adults. Children under 18, as well as retired and active duty military, are admitted free. Doors open at 9 a.m. For more information about the event call the Museum at 207-594-4418 or visit our website at owlshead.org. The Museum is located at 117 Museum Street, in Owls Head, Maine, just two miles south of Rockland on Route 73.

No pets allowed on Museum or show grounds. No camping.
