Update from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office: At 8:30 a.m., the Lincoln County 911 Center received a call for a crash involving a school bus striking a tree on the East Side Road in the town of Trevett on Barters Island.  Boothbay Region Ambulance, Boothbay Fire Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded.

An investigation of the scene showed the bus went off the left side of the road and struck a tree.  It is believed the bus driver, Lyndon Roberts, age 67, of Trevett, may have suffered a medical event causing him to lose control of the bus. There was one student on the bus at the time. Both Mr. Roberts and the student were transported to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta for treatment of minor injuries and observation.

Speed does not appear to be a factor in this crash and no charges are being pursued at this time.

The bus was removed and the road reopened at 9:40 a.m.

Original Post: The bus driver and a male passenger were injured when a Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District (CSD) bus veered off East Side Road and into some trees on Barters Island, Boothbay Friday morning, April 15.

Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford, who was first on the scene, said the male passenger was outside the bus, conscious, and laying in the road when he arrived. The male complained of back pain, Spofford said.

Boothbay Region Ambulance Service took the two victims to an undetermined location, according to Assistant Fire Chief Gary Arsenault of Boothbay Fire Department.

More information on this story is forthcoming from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
