There won’t be a taco Tuesday but tacos will be on the menu at the Wednesday, April 17 potluck. Hosts, Paul and Louise, will be providing the main dish of tacos with the trimmings and are asking that you bring either a side dish, a salad or a dessert to share. You are welcome to bring you own appetizers for this gathering. You should also bring your beverage of choice and BICA will have coffee and water available. Hope to see you at the BICA hall for the fiesta starting at 5:30 p.m.

The potluck season got off to a good start with about 40 folks attending. Thanks to the kitchen crew of Brenda, Les, Wendy, Paul and Judy for keeping everything organized. Graham’s sister and brother-in-law were special guests visiting from England. It was fun to re-connect with many friends and neighbors for the first time back at the hall.

Special thanks to Frosty for manning the lobster raffle table at the potluck. If you haven’t heard, the BICA hall roof needs repairs and a raffle of 25 pounds of lobster is being held to help defray the cost of the rubber coating. Tickets (1 ticket for $1, 6 tickets for $5) will be available at the May and June potlucks, at the July 1 Better Than A Yard Sale, or at any time from Evelyn. The winning ticket will be drawn after the July 1 sale.

The Barters Island Road Cleanup scheduled for April 30 actually took place on several different days due to the inclement weather. The volunteer response for this event was amazing with 34 folks offering their services. Although there were some interesting items recovered, for the most part the road clean-up went well thanks to island residents who take pride in where they live and keep the island tidy. Bill oversaw the crew of Mel, the other Bill, Liza and Brian for a cleanup of the BICA hall grounds with much raking, tree trimming and tree removal. Special thanks to Bill for overseeing the hall grounds cleanup, to Paul for organizing the road cleanup, to Gage (Coastal Property Care) for coming by to level the parking area and to Rob and Sandy for rewarding the volunteers with pizza. 30+ folks braved terrible rain to come to the BICA hall to enjoy the pizza and receive thanks for taking part in a great community event.

And another reminder for when you are doing your spring cleaning is to be sure to save those no longer needed nice items for the July 1 Better Than A Yard Sale. This year the only books being accepted are cookbooks and gardening books. As in past years neither clothing nor large pieces of furniture are accepted. Let Evelyn know if you would like to help with the sale and/or if you are not able to keep your donations until June and need to donate your items now. Evelyn (207-380-6977 or evelynshahan@gmail.com) would love to hear from you if you have any questions about any BICA activities or events or if you know of a friend, neighbor or someone on the island who needs a little assistance.
