Trevett Column: Potluck Sept. 20, firewood raffle and more
After a most successful Saturday cookout, BICA is back to its normal Wednesday potluck schedule. We will be back at the BICA hall on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m. The Spofford Lane crew will be the hosts and they are asking that you bring either a main dish, a side, a salad or a dessert to share. You are welcome to bring you own appetizers as well as your beverage of choice. BICA will have water and coffee available.
We are very excited to have twin brothers and lifelong bridge tenders Duane and Dwight Lewis give an after dinner presentation of their very popular program in which they reminisce about their combined 90 years tending the Southport, Trevett, and Bristol bridges. This should be a most informative and entertaining event so come hear first-hand their stories and recollections. You don’t want to miss this.
Our firewood raffle is off to a good start but could use more ticket buyers. Gage Sherman of Coastal Property Care has generously donated a cord of wood for the raffle and will also deliver the wood to the Boothbay area. Tickets will be available at the potluck and the winning ticket will be drawn that night. This is an opportunity to warm yourself or to donate the wood to help an island neighbor stay warm this winter. If you won’t be able to attend the potluck but would like to support the raffle, please get in touch with Evelyn.
The August cookout was amazing with over 80 folks in attendance. The now famous Grill Team of Mel, Tom, Bill, and Paul did not disappoint. The burgers and dogs were plentiful as were sides and desserts. Great conversations and shared stories added to the fun evening. Thanks to all who helped with the set up and clean up and contributed food.
Please remember you are welcome to leave your no longer wanted books on the hall windowsills where others are free to borrow them. And you are welcome to borrow any that you might find there.
As always, Evelyn (207-380-6977) or evelynshahan@gmail.com is happy to answer any questions you may have about BICA, its mission or its events. And if you know of a neighbor or someone on the island who needs a little assistance, please let her know.
