Trevett column: Potluck Dec. 20 and more
The last potluck for the year will be Wednesday, Dec. 20 after which the hall will close until April. The officers and trustees do some of the food preparation so all that is requested from attendees is either a side dish that will go with turkey or a dessert to share. As always, you are welcome to bring your own appetizers as well as your beverage of choice. BICA will have water and coffee available. See you at 5:30 p.m. for this festive occasion.
Over 40 spaghetti lovers turned out for the November potluck. Rob and Joan used a recipe from the Barters Island cookbook to make the sauce which got rave reviews. Many thanks to them and their kitchen helpers for all their efforts contributing to a delicious meal.
Bill H. was welcomed to the BICA board as a new trustee. Bill’s willingness to serve is greatly appreciated. The traditional collection for the food pantry was taken and with BICA’s match, $800 will be donated to help the pantry with its needs. This summer Ann and Clark’s grandchildren, Kenzie, Connor, Charlie, Parker and Avery, had a lemonade/cookie stand on Kimballtown Road which resulted in a very nice contribution to BICA. Thanks to the children for their hard work and the generous folks who stopped by.
The after-dinner trivia game was hard but Rob with assistance from Susan, Michelle, Jim, Bill and Brian, earned the top score. He was followed somewhat closely by Laura who was assisted by Joan, Evelyn, Brenda and Bill.
The annual BICA tea was held on Dec. 3. Three teas and numerous cookies nourished the 15 folks in attendance so the wrapping of the Christmas presents for the approximately 45 island children went quickly and smoothly. This is a great BICA tradition with the gifts being delivered by Santa’s elves close to the holidays. Lots of stimulating conversations took place and everyone went home with a box of cookies – yummy, yummy. Thanks to Emily for overseeing this.
To save on heating expense the hall is closed until April so no potlucks take place there. Emily has generously volunteered to host a BICA potluck in her home in February and Sally has offered her home for the March gathering. If anyone else would like to volunteer for January, please get in touch with Evelyn. Information regarding the location of the potluck will be provided by email only so be sure you are on the BICA list. If you are not, contact Judy at judyb1625@gmail.com to get added.
As we get into the snowy/colder weather you may know of some folks on the island that need a little assistance. If so, please let Evelyn know. And as always, she (207-380-6977 or evelynshahan@gmail.com ) is happy to answer any questions you may have about BICA, its mission or its events.
