Trevett Column: Potluck, bingo July 19
July 19 will be here before you know it so mark your calendars now for the BICA potluck at 5:30. The hosts would like you to bring either a main dish, a side dish, a salad, or a dessert to share. You are welcome to bring you own appetizers for this gathering. As usual, BICA will have coffee and water available but you are welcome to your beverage of choice.
Bingo will follow dinner. Paul will be the caller with assistance from the Gloria chorus.
Irena had a great kitchen staff for the June potluck and because there were about 70 folks in attendance there was an abundance of food. It is amazing that the table held up under the weight of all the offerings. Thanks to all who kept the evening running smoothly.
Denny and Donna did a great presentation on their Barters Island Bees enterprise and had a nice display of some of the bee products they have developed. We thank them for their generosity in providing a sample jar of their honey to all who attended. And if you know of a place on the island that they might be able to use as a production facility, please let them know.
After many nervous days concerning the weather, July 1 remained rain free and a most successful Better Than A Yard Sale took place. It was amazing the long line of folks queuing up before the 8:00 opening. And the shoppers continued to come for hours.
Needless to say you don’t pull off a Lobster Raffle, Bakery, Plant Shop, Flea Market and original Yard Sale without a lot of effort on the part of a lot of folks. So many, many thanks go out to those people that donated, organized, priced, baked, publicized, and sold goods. And of course we thank the people that came to shop because without the sale proceeds, BICA would not be able to help those neighbors that might need a little boost.
BICA congratulates Candace on winning the lobster raffle. She has won 25 lobsters donated by several local fishermen as well as a very large pot for cooking the lobsters. BICA thanks them very much for the donation of their catch and the hall will get some roof repairs as a result of the money raised by the raffle. Thanks to all the ticket buyers.
Coming up in August will be the annual cookout scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 26. Details will be forthcoming.
If you have any questions about any BICA activities or events or if you know of a neighbor or someone on the island who needs a little assistance please get in touch with Evelyn (207-380-6977 or evelynshahan@gmail.com).
