Trevett Column: Nov. 15 potluck, Halloween and upcoming events
Everybody loves spaghetti! Thanks to Joan and Rob you will able to enjoy it at the Wednesday, Nov. 15 potluck. You are asked to bring either a side, a salad or a dessert to share. As always, you are welcome to bring you own appetizers as well as your beverage of choice. BICA will have water and coffee available. See you at 5:30 p.m.
There will an after-dinner trivia game. You may want to study up on your general Maine knowledge.
And we will be taking up our annual collection for our local Food Pantry. Since BICA will be matching the amount collected, please be generous with your contribution. This will result in a great donation to the Food Pantry providing it with needed funds for the upcoming holiday and winter seasons.
Costumes were not mandatory but the majority of the folks at the Halloween potluck were in a wide variety of costumes. The hall was most festively decorated with all manner of scary decor. Special light up pumpkins decorated the tables. Laura and Bucky did an amazing job on the decorations. Paul managed the kitchen with help from Jim and Brian. Brian sent home dishes cleaner than when they arrived.
There was spooky music to accompany the costumed folks as they made the stroll before judges Michelle, Dave and Donna. Bucky with his crutch, Eddie on her scooter and the geriatric group with their walkers sure made an effort to impress the judges with their antics. As it turns out, the winners were: Very Pretty-Emily; Needs a Friend-Kim; Fun and Sexy-Dave and Ken; Most Scary-Louise; Party Animal-Mel; Good Organized Costume-Peter; Best Disguise-Roland; Clever Costume-Bubbles aka Dalton; and Needs a Helping Hand-Ed and Ken.
BICA has always provided the island children with a Christmas gift. If you would like to contribute to this effort, you may bring your unwrapped gifts to the November potluck or the December 3rd tea, which is when the gifts will be wrapped. Gift cards are always welcome for the older children and cash is gratefully received so BICA can do some shopping to fill any missed needs. This is a great BICA tradition with the gifts being delivered by Santa’s elves close to the holidays.
There will be more details coming regarding the Dec. 3 tea but that date should be on your calendar along with Dec. 20. Dec. 20 will be the holiday potluck where the officers and trustees do almost all the cooking. You just need to bring a dessert to share and your beverage.
As we get into the colder weather, if you know of some folks on the island that need a little assistance, please let Evelyn know. And as always, she (207-380-6977 or evelynshahan@gmail.com ) is happy to answer any questions you may have about BICA, its mission or its events.
