Considering the position you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues?
The three most important challenges facing our school district are declining enrollments, excess and aging physical infrastructure, and ensuring that we have creative and contemporary curriculum so that our children are best positioned to succeed in today’s ever-changing economic environment.
A strong school system is the foundation of any community and ours is in trouble. We face millions of dollars in deferred maintenance and have considerable excess capacity in our physical infrastructure and no real plan on how to address escalating costs against declining enrollment. Solutions will take courageous leadership, community involvement, creative thinking and a plan that fixes the constraints of our school charter.
The technology age has changed the way we teach, learn and interact but vocational and trade skills are increasing in importance as that labor force matures. We need to ensure that we think creatively, and are providing all types of opportunities to learn that prepare our children for adulthood.
I am genuinely concerned with the challenges facing our school system but also excited about the possibilities and I know I can bring ideas, focus and energy to the School Board.
