Tom Minerich, Boothbay Harbor candidate for CSD Board of Trustees

Wed, 04/24/2024 - 11:30am

Occupation: Over the course of my career, I have had responsibility for large scale, commercial projects both new and existing construction.  I am retired after a 40-year career in the security and life-safety electronics field with a variety of roles from sales, marketing and business management.

Political History (Board, Committees): I moved to Boothbay Harbor 10 years ago and have been active in the community including: Board of Directors of the Boothbay Railway Village, Member of the Boothbay Lights Committee,  Boothbay Region Ambulance Service Board, Boothbay Harbor Board of Appeals, Boothbay Region Education Foundation Board and Chair of the Boothbay Harbor Planning Board.  I am a member of the local American Legion as a Vietnam Era Veteran and also a member of the Rotary International, Boothbay Harbor Chapter.  I believe it is important to support the community in which you live and keep all members of the community in mind when you volunteer for public service.

Considering the position you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues?

I have attended many CSD Trustee meetings over the years and supported their efforts to address needed repairs.  I do not agree with spending $30 million to build new buildings. I fully support funding the needed repairs for the Elementary School while determining what the community wants for 7-12th grades.  We should consider all available options.

I believe that the Trustees focus is the security and safety of our students and providing a comfortable and productive learning environment within the means of our community.  I am running because I have experience with commercial construction projects and working with system engineers and architects which will be very useful as the Trustees will spend millions of taxpayer funds and need to actively manage costs.

I grew up in low-income housing and attended a small neighborhood school. My memories of my younger years include the lessons provided by some wonderful, caring educators. I value the role a school has in the community but respect the voice of the voters and the taxpayers paying the bill. I pledge to collaborate with all stakeholders, respectfully listen to the public and know we can arrive at solutions that meet our children’s educational needs.
