Thursday Community Lunch ends successful year
Almost every Thursday from early November until just before Easter, a large gathering can be found enjoying food, fellowship and fun from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at St. Columba's Episcopal Church. Worship space is transformed into a community dining room set with tables and chairs. Volunteers from area churches and the community at large prepare hearty soups and an assortment of breads and wonderful desserts. Guests usually arrive early to secure a seat, have coffee and catch up on the week's news.
Each week a group from a different area church serve as hosts. Boothbay Harbor Congregational is on deck the first Thursday of the month, followed the second week by Methodists from Southport, Boothbay Harbor and East Boothbay. St. Columba's hosts the third week and Boothbay Baptists the fourth.
In existence since 2008, the community lunches raise money by free will donations for the Boothbay Region Food Pantry. During the 2017-2018 season, $1,572 was raised and 865 people enjoyed the meals.
Thank you to the faithful community volunteers of all the area churches who facilitated this growing ministry.
